miss and love you Grandma Rohde, the mother of my father James P. Rohde.

I would be remiss if I do not mention that Granpa (Fred) met Granma (Clara) on the train headed to Toronto, where Granma was from. He was headed to Hartford & she to Toronto to visit her sister, Kay (John Walsh's) mom.
They met & fell immediately in love. A love so deep & endearing it affects me to this day. Secret kisses & surprises between them. Love as it should be, but seldom is. How lucky I am, have been & will be thanks to them.

This picture which has four of five family members was taken on the side of 2014 Vega Ave in Cleveland, Ohio.

To the right was another one story home which day adjacent to the Elementary School where I attended. Scranton School was eventually torn down as repairs were costly & the school board did not want the school to sit on the precipice of I71, which was under construction.

I remember sitting on the front porch & viewing the annual Soap Box Derby. It was held directly across the street on I71 as the slope was the perfect grade for the race.

Behind the house was a shed, which was built to house two horses used by the milk man for delivery of fresh milk. It also housed chickens & a rooster so fresh eggs were always available.

Grandma churned & we had fresh butter. Grandpa hunted & there was always fresh meat & largo birds, which grandma skinned or defeathered so Granpa could butcher & pack for storage on the root cellar located under the house.

Grandpa was also a great gardener & grew, then packed for storage. Again in the root cellar.

On the we left side of the house lived Mr & Mrs Rommer. She was a lady of leisure. He was an inventor, who had several patents guaranteeing them a life of leisure. Unfortunately, fate stepped on and both were hit by a drink driver racing down Scranton Road & striking them as they waited for the bus. It was very sad & the neighbor's did not take it well. This one incident is most likely the lunch pin leading to the passing of drunk driving laws.

Growing up was idyllic inmm as my ways. My family was very loving & supportive. They had many friends, all of which were "aunt's" or "uncles". Judgements were made based on merit or lack thereof. Other things, which still affect lives were never considered.

My mother, Gloria took it upon herself to take care of protect her parents until they passed. I in turn did the same for her & not a day goes by that I don't not thank the greater power for allowing me to fulfill a task that beats abundant fruit, forgiveness & understanding.

Thank You for the story Fredrick Rohde son of Gloria Rohde.
