Born March 4, 1947, in Cowpens, SC, she was the daughter of the late Leonard M. and Annie Kathleen (Keith) Sanders.
A graduate of Cowpens High School, she was a former employee with Western Auto and Roses.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Cowpens, former member of the Cowpens City Council for over 16 years, former Mayor Pro Temp of Cowpens, President of the SC Municipal Association, and a board member of the Environmental Protection Agency.
Survivors include her husband, Leroy Vance Mathis; two sisters, Gaynelle S. Greene of Gaffney, and Mary S. Pace and her husband Preston Ray of Easley; a brother, Robert L. Sanders of Chesnee; many beloved nieces and nephews, devoted friends, and relatives; and her pride and joy, Cody.
She was predeceased by a brother, Douglas M. Sanders.
Visitation was 1:00-2:45 p.m. Thursday, June 15, 2006, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services followed at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel conducted by the Rev. Henry Coley. Burial was in Daniel Morgan Memorial Gardens.
