DEATH OF AN ESTIMABLE LADY. - It is our painful duty this morning to chronicle the death of one of the most estimable ladies of Shreveport. Yesterday morning about 4 o'clock Mrs. Amazon A. Cole, wife of Mr. Benjamin Jacobs, yielded up her spirit to the God who gave it. She had been in extremely feeble health for months, and latterly her friends realized the sad fact that her death was only a question of a short time.

It is no idle praise to say of the deceased that she was in every essential a true and noble woman. She discharged all the duties of life, as daughter, wife, mother, sister and friend, in such manner as to win the admiration and affection of all who knew her well. Surely this is as much as could be expected of any mortal. She was the wife of Mr. Ben Jacobs, of the firm E. & B. Jacobs, and sister of the wife of his older brother. He and the bereaved family and connection, which is quite large, have the profound sympathy of the entire community.

As will be seen from the notice published in another coumn, the funeral will take place this afternoon at 3 o'clock.

We learn that Mrs. Ben Jacobs, while out with her husband, practicing with a pistol, on Tuesday, accidentally discharged the pistol, shooting herself in the foot. Dr. Clark shortly afterwards, extracted the ball which did not quite penetrate her foot. We are happy to state the lady is doing well, and it is hoped will speedily recovery.

While we think all the fair sex should learn the use of firm-arms in these warlike times, yet the many accidents resulting in their use should make them extremely cautious.
