Shirley Mae Gros Barrios entered into eternal rest on Thursday, April 30, 2015. She was born April 5,1926, daughter of the late Leonce Paul Gros and Henrietta Boudreaux Gros. Beloved wife of 65 years to Eugene Firmin Barrios. Mother of Cynthia Ann Barrios Finn (Dennis). Grandmother to Alicia Finn Lee (Robert) and Dennis Stanton Finn III (Richelle). Great-grandmother to Aidan Robert Lee. Shirley is also survived by her siblings Russel Gros, Sr. and Helen Burregi along with a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Clara Authement and brother Stanley Gros, Sr.
Shirley was born in Gretna, Louisiana, grew up in Marrero and lived her remaining years in Harvey, a lifelong resident of the Westbank. She was employed by the Louisiana Air National Guard, 159th Fighter Group as a supply keypunch operator and then worked for the 926th Tactical Fighter Group of the U.S. Air Force Reserves in the supply warehouse, retiring in 1988 with 17 1/2 years of dedicated federal service.
She was a strong woman of faith and a very loving and generous person. She will be fondly remembered and missed by her family and friends.
