Alvin J. Hansen was born in Alexandria, Minnesota, on March 5, 1907, the son of Charles and Elsie (Felton) Hansen. He attended Alexandria Public Schools, grew to manhood and worked in the Alexandria area before entering the United States Army in which he served from 1942-1945. He returned to Alexandria and was united in marriage to Myrtle Olson on February 19, 1945. He worked for Alexandria Light and Power and retired in 1972. Alvin had been a member of the VFW Post 936 and enjoyed horses, fishing and hunting.
He died January 8, 1988, at the Veteran's Hospital in St. Cloud at the age of 80 years. Alvin is survived by wife: Myrtle Hansen of Alexandria; sons; Allan and wife Peggy Hansen of Zimmerman; Gary and wife Beverly Hansen of Nelson; daughters: Mrs. Gene (Carol) Bearson of Osakis; Mrs. Wayne (Joan) Meyer of Alexandria; brother: Donald Hansen of Alexandria; sisters: Mrs. Jim (Edna) Nesmith of Iowa City, IA; Mrs. Donald (Meryl) Brendal of South Glastonbury, CN; and Mrs. Haven (Lois) Boyer of Orlando, FL. Also surviving are ten grandchildren. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Lillian and Frannie.
Funeral services were January 12, 1988 at the Anderson Funeral Chapel, Alexandria, Minnesota with Rev. Thomas Javor officiating. Interment was in Kinkead Cemetery, Alexandria, Minnesota. Pallbearers were Michael Hansen, John Hansen, Dennis Moen, Dennis Terhark, Gary Eiden and Gordon Rachel. Military Honors by VFW Post No. 936. Arrangements with Anderson Funeral Home.
