He was born August 15, 1929, in Hamlet to Roy and Florence (Cole) Hagan. He grew up at Hamlet and graduated from the Oklahoma University School of Technology. He entered the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.
On December 15, 1953, he married Ruth L. Carroll at Norfolk, Virginia. They made their home at Grant. In 1953, he began his custom harvesting and trucking business before moving to Culbertson in the fall of 1964. In 1977, he incorporated his business into Don Hagan and Sons Trucking Company. He also farmed since 1964.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter; and two sisters-in-law, Betty and Peg Hagan.
Survivors include two sons, Don Hagan Jr. and wife, Pat; and Bruce Hagan and wife, Susan of Culbertson; three daughters, Donna and husband, Gary Olson; and Deb and husband, Jeff Huss of Culbertson; and Christy and husband, Gary Allen of Fort Worth, Texas; three brothers, Dale Hagan and wife, Bertha of Imperial; Delbert Hagan of Elsie; and Darrell Hagan and wife, Helen of Madrid; one sister, Dortha and husband, Ray Blumenkamp of Gering; 21 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Friday, 2 p.m., at the First Baptist Church in McCook with the Rev. Stan Hendershot officiating. Interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.
Memorials may be given in his name and friends may call at the funeral home. Herrmann Funeral Home of McCook is in charge of arrangements.
