Actor. A handsome performer, his in-depth interpretation of Shakespearean works earned him the reputation as being one of England's most accomplished stage figures. Born Peter Nigel Terry, his father served as a RAF pilot during World War II, Nigel's love for acting led him to participate in plays at the National Youth Theatre. He continued his training at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London and later marked his professional debut playing 'Evans' in "The Long and the Short and the Tall." He followed this playing 'Tybalt' in "Romeo and Juliet." He marked his motion picture debut playing 'John' opposite Peter O'Toole and Katherine Hepburn in "The Lion in Winter" (1968) and during the next decade, he remained almost exclusively on stage with the exception of sporadic TV roles, as he experienced performing in the plays "The Fool" (1975) and "Light Shining in Buckinghamshire" (1976). He returned to the big screen in 1981, when he starred as 'King Arthur' opposite Helen Mirren in the picture "Excalibur." Terry was also associated with the works of filmmaker Derek Jarman. Sadly, years of cigarette smoking cause emphysema which led to his death.
