Debra “Deb” J. Carpenter, age 60, of Omro, graduated to heaven on Tuesday, April 29, 2015, after a three year battle with leukemia.

She was born October 7, 1954, in Oshkosh, WI, daughter of Richard and Joan (Hiltz) Van Densen. She graduated from Oshkosh High School, class of 1972. On May 18, 1974, she married Steven E. Carpenter of Omro. They were blessed with three wonderful children.

Deb was an active member of Wyldewood Baptist Church. Deb enjoyed volunteering on a regular basis at Wyldewood Christian School from 1975-2012. She was involved in WBC youth ministries. Her passion was Wyldewood’s bus ministry, where she served for more than 30 years, bringing thousands of young people to church. In 2001, she became a grandma and at present she has eight grandchildren (6 grandsons and 2 granddaughters respectively) and one on the way. She said, “these years of being a grandma have been some of the best years of my life.” She enjoyed taking her grandchildren for trips to Pizza Hut and the Oshkosh Public Museum. Steve and Deb enjoyed car and motorcycle rides in the country. Deb was selfless and would always find ways to help others. She loved to serve people, was proud of her family, and brought great joy to those around her. She was affectionately called “Ma” by her students and co-workers.

Deb was confident in her eternal destination because of her personal relationship with her Saviour, Jesus Christ. (Ephesians 2:8-9 and I John 5:13) She did not fear death, throughout her battle with leukemia she would often quote II Corinthians 5:8 “…to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.”

Deb is survived by her husband, Steve, of nearly 41 years; her mother, Joan (Hiltz) Van Densen; her siblings, Diane Van Densen, Chuck (Jane) Van Densen, Richard “Rick” Van Densen and Amy (Dave) Moore. She is further survived by her children, Timothy (Star) Carpenter, Thomas (Jaclyn) Carpenter, Teresa (James) Daw; eight grandchildren, Tomas, Isaiah, Justus, and Aleczander Carpenter; Cailie Carpenter; Zackary, Elijah and Zoe Daw.

She was preceded in death by her father, Richard “Dick” Van Densen.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, May 6, at Wyldewood Baptist Church, 3030 Witzel Ave., Oshkosh, WI. The family will receive family and friends from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Tuesday, May 5, at Wyldewood Baptist Church and Wednesday, May 6, from 10:00 am - 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Deb’s name.

The family would like to thank the staff of PCU 2 at Mercy Medical Center, Eden Meadows, and Omro Care Center for their loving and compassionate care.
