Ida Bell was the daughter of Levi Holmes Kennedy and Miranda Etta Deloach Kennedy. She was born April 2, 1905. Levi and Etta first had twins that did not survive that are buried at Brewton Cemetery in Hagan. Eva was born in 1898. A daughter born in 1899 died. Wallace was born in 1903, Ida Bell in 1905 and Eva died in 1906. Wallace was a dwarf and died at age 21 so Ida Bell was the only child that lived past age 21.

Ida Bell married G. Brinson Hodges, Sr. December 23, 1921. Son G. B. was born January 7, 1923 and Holmes was born May 2, 1926. The couple divorced when Holmes was three in 1929. Ida Bell married Carl Clifford Collins and their only child, Carl Lee was born May 17, 1936.

Ida Bell, like her parents, loved Bay Branch Church. Her father, Levi Holmes Kennedy was the son of Raiford Kennedy. Raiford, along with two of his brothers; Alfred and Martin were sons of Edward Kennedy. The three brothers gave the land for and helped establish Bay Branch Church in 1877.

Ida Bell always had a beautiful flower garden and loved to garden and fish in their ponds. In the summer she canned vegetables and she loved to take Carl Lee and go to the flatwoods near her home and pick huckleberries for a delicious deep dish pan pie. She also picked vegetables and delivered them to friends and family in Claxton who did not have a garden. She was known for her delicious Chewy Cake that she made for friends and family. She loved to entertain after Church on Sunday often cooking Fried Chicken or Chicken and Dumplings and her delicious Coconut Layer Cake. She had a beautiful mahogany dining room set, pretty china and serving dishes and nothing could make her happier than to have the preacher for Sunday dinner. Later in life, her favorite pass time was fishing and tending a few flowers. She always had a 'worm bed' and a fishing pole ready.
