Claxton - Holmes W Hodges, 68, died Saturday in an tractor accident at home. He was a native of and lived most of his life in Evans County. He was a retired conductor with the CSX Railroad and was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. March 10, 1946 he married Mary Ann born September 24, 1928, daughter of George Lannie and Leary Louise Moore Durrence, of Glennville. Holmes owned a construction business. He loved going on missionary trips and using his construction skills to make life better for others. He and Mary loved to fly their small plane. Both had a great sense of humor. He was a member of the VFW and the First United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Methodist Men's group, George Durrence Sunday School class and served on several church committees. Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann Durrence Hodges of Claxton; two sons, Eddie and Craig Hodges, both of Claxton; two brothers, G.B. Hodges, Jr and Carl Lee Collins, both of Levi Holmes Kennedy Road, Reidsville; and four grandchildren; Courtney Brooke and Lindsay Ann (Daughters of Angie and Craig), Blake and Sterling (sons of Eddie and Debbie). Funeral: 2 pm Monday at First United Methodist Church, Claxton. Nesmith Funeral Home of Claxton.
