SWARTZ CREEK - Doyle G. Ward, 87, died Sunday (April 18, 2004) at his residence.
Mr. Ward was born July 31, 1916 in Lee County, Va., the son of Jonathan Jefferson and Mary Caroline "Molly" (Kelly) Ward.
He married Frances Bailey on March 15, 1937 in Kentucky and she preceded him in death on March 21, 1989.
Mr. Ward had resided in the Flint area since 1953 coming from Virginia.
He retired from Buick Motor as an inspector in 1981 after 29 years of service and was a member of U.A.W. Local No. 599.
Mr. Ward served in the U.S. Army from 1934-1936. He bred and showed Chihuahuas for 30 years throughout the Mid-West.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Jean Horton, Ruby Flanary; and brother, Guy E. Ward.
Surviving are two daughters, Carol and husband, Bob Holderby of Dayton, Ohio, Donna Kaye and husband, Gary Goodall of Swartz Creek; son, Hobert "Bud" Doyle Ward and wife Deborah of Linden; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Hazel Williams of Big Stone Gap, Va.; brother, Gerald Glen Ward of Fairborn, Ohio; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Sturgill Funeral Home, Pennington Gap, Va.
Services will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home chapel with Pastor John Neff officiating.
Interment will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday at Bailey's Cemetery in Dryden, Va.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
