Earl K. Brooks, 78, a well-known LaSalle Parish educator, passed from this life on Friday, April 17, 2015, at his residence in Jena.

He was born June 19, 1936 to the union of his parents, Eddie and Pauline Brooks.

Earl graduated with honors from Northwestern State College in 1958, and worked in Shreveport as a teacher of gifted children before returning to LaSalle Parish to continue his career as an educator.

He taught at Nebo Elementary School, and then at Jena Junior High School, before Good Pine Middle School was opened, and he served as principal there for the next 21 years. He was transportation supervisor when he retired.

Earl served in the Louisiana Army National Guard for 28 years and retired as a Major.

He loved children and worked with thousands of them over his 38-year career. But his most important role was being a wonderful father to his five children, and the most wonderful husband in the world. He will be sadly missed by all.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 19, at Good Pine Middle School with Rev. Terry Ganey officiating.

Interment followed in the Belah Cemetery under direction of Magnolia Funeral Home of Alexandria.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Edwina Guin; and four brothers, J.D. Brooks, Shelby Brooks, Cecil Brooks, and Floyd Brooks.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Rose Marie Brooks; his children; four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and three step-grandchildren.

Obituary appeared in The Jena Times Olla-Tullos-Urania Signal; Wednesday, April 22, 2015.
