Salt Lake City, UT - Dan Sibbley Gardiner passed away April 29, 2015. Born March 29, 1921 to Dan Sibbley Gardiner, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Port Gardiner, in Salt Lake City, UT.
He graduated from East High School and the University of Utah, majoring in business. He served as a missionary in the Eastern United States Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a radio operator in the Merchant Marines, 1944-1946.
Dan married his sweetheart, Phyllis Ashton, on March 28, 1947 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and they were blessed with five children during their 31 years together until Phyll's death in 1978. In 1979 he married Avila (Abbie) Odel Mulvaney. She died in 2007.
Also preceding him in death were his parents, sisters Annie G. Robinson and Carol Gardiner; his son Ted Dan Gardiner, and his son-in-law William O. Adams. He is survived by daughters Marva Macey, Danelle Adams, Carolee (Joel) Scoville, and Elizabeth (John) Goodell; and stepsons David (Barbara) Kamanski, Michael (Carolyn) Mulvaney, Jeffrey Mulvaney, 27 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren.
He served in the LDS church as bishop and stake president. He was an avid scouter, receiving the Boy Scouts of America highest honor, the Silver Beaver Award. He was the owner of Dan's Foods until the company was sold in 2000.
Dan was thankful for every experience life brought to him. Known for his humility, compassion, generosity and numberless acts of kindness; his life was his sermon.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, May 4, 2015 at 12:00 noon at the Parleys 6th Ward Chapel, 2350 South 2100 East, followed by interment at Larkin Sunset Lawn. Friends may pay their respects Sunday, May 3, 2015 from 6:00-7:30 pm at the Parleys 6th Ward Chapel and Monday May 4, 2015 from 10:00-11:30 am. Funeral Directors Holladay - Cottonwood Mortuary.
