'Col. Richard Bentley,

Who came to Bond county in 1829 and moved to Greenville in 1847; deputy sheriff in 1848 and sheriff a few years later; one of the first presidents of the village board in the early fifties; representative in the state legislature with Lincoln and died in 1873.'


Richard and Elizabeth had at least 11 children:


- Nancy who married John William Jett Sr.

- Edith who married James Shelton and then Erastus Fairchild.

- Garner who married Malinda T Wilkerson, they lived in Jefferson County, Ill.

- Sarah who married Matthew Davis. They lived in Montgomery County, Illinois and after Matthew's death she moved to Summer County, Kansas.

- William C. who married Cerena Blair. They lived in Putnam County, Illinois,.

- Margaret who married Madison Robinson.

- Samuel P. who married Mary Holcomb. They lived in Clinton County, Illinois.

- Elizabeth who married John P. Garland.

- Mary Ann who married Jessie Hanson Jones. They lived in Montgomery County, Illinois.

- Jane whose only evidence I found was the 1850 Census.

- Balaam whose only evidence I found was in a 1870 letter Richard wrote to his sister (Ales Bentley Martin) in Missouri.


Youngest sister Lucretia "Lucy" Bentley married Luker - per find a grave contributor #  (48782848).
