Private AARON KIDDER, enrolled at Groton, 28 Nov. 1863, and mustered in, 26 Dec. 1863, to serve the 8th VERMONT INFANTRY, Company A, as a private, for three years. Aaron Kidder listed the following information at his induction forty years of age, height six feet one inch, dark complexion, blue eyes, dark hair, occupation a farmer, and born at Weathersfield, VT.

Aaron Kidder joined the regiment at Algiers, Louisiana and remained there until, 6 May 1864, then moved to Thibodeaux, LA, until 5 June 1864. The regiment was sent home, 5 June 1864, but Aaron Kidder appears to have remained behind due to illness.

Aaron Kidder died at St. James Hospital, New Orleans, LA, 10 June 1864 of fever and general debility. His cemetery monument No. 354 is located in Chalmette, St. Bernard Parish, New Orleans, Louisiana.
This regiment lost 119 men killed in action and 248 died from disease for a total of 367.

Aaron Kidder was born in 1808, and he died unmarried. Aaron Kidder was actually 55 years of age at enlisted, during the Civil War enlistment age was between 18 and 44 years old. If Aaron Kidder had given his actual age, he wouldn't have been allowed to serve.
