Carrie Ann (Dix) James, 87, of McKeesport, departed this life peacefully Friday, April 24, 2015, in UPMC McKeesport. She was born July 3, 1927, in McKeesport, daughter of the late William and Catherine Hemmons Dix. She was preceded in death by her son, William "Billy Chris" James, on April 5, 1985; sister, Patricia Vincenty; and brother, William Dix. She was a graduate of the McKeesport Area High School and also graduated from the Provident School of Nursing in Chicago, Ill. She later attended California University of Pennsylvania where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. Her work experience includes head nurse in Central Supply at Magee Hospital and also served as a school nurse in the McKeesport Area School District. She most recently was a retired registered nurse with the Visiting Nurses Association where she worked for 16 years. She was one of two oldest members of Bethlehem Baptist Church and a third generation member. She was a former Sunday school teacher, a two-term president of the Missionary Union, and former Chairman of the Trustee Board and is a past president and member of the Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, a former board member of the McKeesport YWCA, member of Jericho People, the NAACP, a two-term president and member of the Semper Fidelis Club of McKeesport. Surviving are sister, M. Jeanne Dix, of McKeesport; nephew, Steve (Barbara) Vincenty; grandnephew, Christopher Vincenty; grandniece, Patricia Vincenty; godchild, Walter (Joyce) Waters Jr.; cousin, Robert A. (Robin) Waters; other cousins, other relatives and many friends. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at the Bethlehem Baptist Church, 716 Walnut St., McKeesport, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2015, with the Rev. Earlene Coleman officiating. Entombment will follow in the McKeesport and Versailles Cemetery, McKeesport. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the William Christopher James Scholarship Fund at Penn State University, c/o M. Jeanne Dix. Local arrangements by the ROBERT A. WATERS FUNERAL HOME INC., Clairton.
