Abraham Braun II was born May 29, 1849 in Muntau, Molotschna of south Russia (Ukraine today) to Abraham I and Anna (Niesen) Braun. On Apr 15, 1872 he became engaged to Elizabeth Buller, and on Apr 25 they were married in Gnadenheim, Russia (Ukraine today). The Abraham and Elizabeth (Buller) Braun family left their home in Russia on May 15, 1879, and sailed on the ship Switzerland of the Red Star Line arriving in New York 14 days later. On Jun 23, 1879 they arrived by railroad in York, Nebraska where Abraham’s cousin John Peters met them and took them to their home. On Sep 6, 1879 their 5th child, daughter Helena (b Sep 23, 1878) died 2 weeks short of her 1st birthday. She was buried on the Isaac Peters farm in York County, Nebraska. On Apr 14, 1880 Abraham was baptized in the river near his mill in York County, Nebraska by Rev Henry Nickel. On Mar 26, 1883, Abraham's wife Elizabeth was baptized in a creek in Hamilton County by Rev John Regier and Rev John Enns. Both Abraham and Elizabeth were lifelong members of the Mennonite Brethren Church. In about 1889, the Abraham Braun family moved to what is now Joes in Yuma County where they lived for about 8 years. Then on May 14, 1887 Abraham and Elizabeth and 7 of their 11 living children began a move to Westfield, Texas by way of a covered wagon. They arrived at Inman Kansas on May 29 where Abraham worked in the wheat harvest while they visited Elizabeth’s brother Benjamin Buller. On August 25 they continued their journey to Westfield, Texas arriving on Oct 4, 1897. There they settled into a new and very humble 2 room home. Then on Mar 25, 1898 Elizabeth became very ill with appendicitis and she died on Sunday, Apr 3, 1898 and was buried on Apr 4 under a mighty India Rubber tree on the Abraham Braun farm in Westfield. In Sep of 1898 about 6 months after Elizabeth died, Mr. Braun and his family left for Enid Oklahoma arriving there on Sept 18. Soon after arrival, they met with Peter Regier who helped them locate a house to live in. Everyone in the Braun family began working at outside jobs to assure that the bare necessities of life would be available. On Dec 17, 1899, Abraham Braun married his 2nd wife, Elizabeth Wiens in Buhler, Kansas, and they established a home in Joes, Colorado where they lived for most of the next 10 years. Then in Jan 1910, Elizabeth (Wiens) Braun took sick and she died on Jan 21, 1910. Elizabeth was buried in the New Hope Church Cemetery in Joes Colorado. On Nov 17, 1910 Abraham Braun married his 3rd wife, widow Helena (Regier) Kroeker in Hillsboro Kansas. Abraham had 13 children with his 1st wife, and he had no children with his 2nd or 3rd wives. On Jul 1, 1914, Abraham was called to meet his Savior after suffering a few weeks of illness. He was laid to rest in the New Hope Cemetery in Joes, Colorado (Row 3, Line 41) near his 2nd wife, Elizabeth (Wiens) Braun (who was laid to rest there earlier in Row 3, Line 47).
