JOHNSON, Jake L. Age 88, of Hamilton passed away at Wellington Manor on Thursday, August 11, 2005 at 1:47 a.m. He was born in Laurel County, Kentucky on April 7, 1917 the son of Hiarm and Angline (Johnson) Johnson. Jake was employed as a carpenter for A. Benzing & Sons for twenty years, and a member of Union Local #534, retiring in 1975. He was formerly employed at Good and Wicker Coal Mining. Jake, an outgoing man who never met a stranger, was a member for over forty years of the 9th Street United Methodist Church. In 1938 in Laurel County, Kentucky he married Cecilia Evans, who preceded him in death in 1968; on June 2, 1973 in Hamilton he married Kathleen Burcham. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Johnson of Hamilton; four sons, James Johnson and his wife Sallie, Charles Johnson and his wife Betty, George Johnson and his wife Brenda, all of Pittsburgh, Kentucky, and Doug Johnson of Farriston, Kentucky; four daughters, Judy Scott and her husband Tommy, Etta Hodge and her husband Mike, Charlene Thompson and her husband Larry, all of London, Kentucky, and Jody Johnson of Hamilton; two step-sons, Robert Sandlin and his wife Marlene of Okeana and David Sandlin of Hamilton; three step-daughters, Carol Rouse, Pam Eckler and her husband Ross, both of Hamilton, and Mary Horn and her husband Doug of Dayton; thirty-five grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and step great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mattiebell Johnson of Hamilton; numerous nieces and nephews; and two very special friends, Mattie Andrews and Lucille Rawlins, both of Hamilton. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Mike Johnson and Bill Johnson; two daughters, Sue Burns and Lulu Johnson; five brothers, Joe, Mike, Elmer, Kenneth, and Fred; and five sisters, Sarah, Cora, Mary, Susie and Emily. Funeral service will be held at the Brown Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Saturday, August 13, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Thomas Brunner of Seven Mile United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Wellington Manor, the staff of Vitas Hospice, and his many supportive friends.
