Elizabeth (Buller) Braun was born Feb 8, 1847 in south Russia (now south central Ukraine), and died 51 years later in the U.S.A. on Apr 3, 1898. Mrs. Braun, with her husband Abraham II Braun and their 5 children, left Russia May 15, 1879 and sailed on the Ship Switzerland of the Red Star Line arriving in New York 14 days later. On June 23, 1879, they arrived by railroad in York, Nebraska where John Peters (a cousin to Abraham) took the Braun’s to their new home. Elizabeth’s and Abraham’s youngest daughter Helena, born on Sep 23, 1878 in south Russia, died on Sep 6, 1879 about 10 weeks after their arrival in York. She was 2 weeks less than a year old when she died, and was buried on the Rev. Isaac Peters farm in York County, Nebraska with Reverend Peters officiating. Abraham was baptized by immersion on Apr 14, 1880 in the river near his mill in York County, Nebraska; and Elizabeth was baptized on Mar 26, 1883 in a creek in Hamilton County, Nebraska. In about 1889, the Abraham Braun family moved to Joes Colorado in what is now Yuma County (Joes was called Kirk at the time). During 1873-1891, Abraham and Elizabeth (Buller) Braun had 13 children and 11 lived to adulthood. The 2 who died were the 1st Helena (b 1878; d 1878) and the 1st Sara (b 1882; d 1882). On May 14, 1897, Abraham, Elizabeth and 7 of their 11 living children, began moving to Westfield, Texas by way of two covered wagons. The 4 Braun children who stayed behind with relatives were Elizabeth, Abraham, Isaak and Marie. After about 2 weeks of traveling, the Braun family arrived at Inman, Kansas where the Braun family worked in the harvest while visiting Benjamin Buller (Elizabeth's brother). On August 25th they continued their journey, and on Oct 4, 1897 finally arrived at the home of the Bernhard Kroekers in Westfield Texas. In March of 1898 after only a few short months in their new and very humble 2 room home at Westfield, Texas, Elizabeth Braun became very ill with appendicitis. Elizabeth died on Sunday, Apr 3, 1898, and on Monday, Apr 4 with many in attendance Elizabeth's mortal remains were laid to rest under a mighty, so-called India Rubber tree on the Abraham Braun farm in Westfield, Texas.
