Mr. John Norris Spidel III, 96, of Lebanon, passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at Homewood Health Campus in Lebanon. He was born July 9, 1918, in Sheridan, a son of the now late John Norris II and Lydia H. (Hancock) Spidel.

John was raised and educated in Sheridan, graduating in 1937.

He was married in Rockville on Oct. 4, 1937, to Marjorie Ann Neal. Mrs. Spidel passed away Nov. 7, 2009. Following his marriage, John had lived in Anderson for a year and moved to the Lebanon area in 1939, where he had since resided.

John had worked at Delco-Remy in Anderson. He then worked for Winklers U.S. Machine, which became Stewart-Warner, from 1939 to 1977, when the Lebanon plant closed. He transferred to Stewart-Warner Southwind Division, working seven more years until his retirement in 1984, with 45 years of service. John also worked for the safety patrol at the Indianapolis 500 for 28 years.

As a devoted husband, father and grandfather, he enjoyed his family and took pride in his children and grandchildren. In addition he enjoyed hunting and traveling, and was an avid sports fan.

John was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Kirklin, Siloam Lodge # 609 F & AM in Mechanicsburg, Indianapolis Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine, and he was a Boy Scout Troop Leader in Mechanicsburg.

Survivors include daughter, Sue (Joe) Rogers of Frankfort; daughter-in-law, Jacque S. Spidel of Lebanon; seven grandchildren, Rick A. (Debby) Spidel of Lebanon, William J. (Helen) Spidel of Crawfordsville, and Michael G. (Tammy) Spidel, Donna S. (Robert II) Ross, John (Shelly) McIntyre and Jason McIntyre, all of Lebanon, and Callie Rogers of Lafayette; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents and his wife; a son, Don Neal Spidel; three brothers, George Spidel, Glen Spidel and Joel Spidel; and two sisters, Caroline Spidel and Bertha Sandlin.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 25, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services with Masonic Rites will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the mortuary. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
