Eugene “Gene” Burleson

Eugene was born 1/04/22, the first of twins, to Jim and Emma Burleson in Buford,Arkansas. He spent his childhood there on the family farm. At age 21, he joined the Navy and served on the USS Cherokee as a radioman. On Nov.22, 1943, he married Earnesteen Dickerson after a three-day courtship. In 1945, he was honorably discharged; later that year their first son, Jim, was born. The young family moved
west to Idaho where Gene worked for the highway dept. It was here that their second son, Donald, was born. The family moved to Washington, where Gene worked building Grand Coulee Dam and also for the Forest Service. The family moved to the Wenatchee valley and in 1964, Gene went to work for Alcoa, retiring in 1985. As a young man, he
played guitar and mandolin in a band named The Texas-k-Bar Boys. He will always be remembered for his guitar and harmonica playing. He was famous for playing “Happy
Birthday” on his harmonica to anyone celebrating, as he said with a twinkle…”they always like that!” He was a huge Cashmere Bulldog fan and rarely missed a game. Gene spent his retirement years fishing (and throwing ‘em back), going for drives (especially to Mill Bay to play the nickel slots!) and drinking coffee with his friends at Barney’s and the Dryden tavern, where they would solve the world’s problems. Gene was a member of the American Legion and regularly donated blood to the American Red Cross, with a lifetime total donation of 87 units.

He is survived by his wife, Earnesteen, of 62 years; his sons, James and Donald (LeJoy) all of Cashmere; brother, Bob Burleson, of St. Louis, MO; 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by his parents, two brothers and his twin sister.

Gene was a social guy with a smile and joke for anyone, which he would follow-up with….”All the comedians out of work and I’m trying to be funny!” We smile with tears when we remember him. He will be missed by many.

Services will be Tuesday, August 30, 2005 at 1 p.m. at Braun Funeral Home in Cashmere. Memorials can be made in his honor to Cashmere Bulldog Booster Club. Arrangments have
been entrusted to Braun Funeral Home.
