John Duane Dabel, 77, of Idaho Falls, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2015, at his home. John was born in Afton, Wyoming on September 6th, 1937 to Arthur August Dabel and Annie Winona Ames.

He married Diane Jackson June 17th 1966 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Together they had three daughters.

John taught school for thirty two years at Dora Erickson Elementary in Idaho Falls and professionally painted homes.

John was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served three missions in the Netherlands where he fluently spoke in Dutch. He also served in many different positions of the church.

John loved fishing, and was a guide with his uncle on the Snake River in Wyoming. He also painted many pictures which hang on the walls of numerous homes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Georgina Dabel, his sister Joyce Russell, a half-brother Ronnie Dabel and a half-sister Linda Wofley. He is survived by his wife Diane Dabel of Idaho Falls, his two daughters Leeza (Malin) Reynolds of Iona and Cali Clark (Jeremey) of Gilbert Arizona, and six grandchildren, and three half-siblings, Dixie, Nancy and Dirk.

Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at the Lincoln LDS Stake Center in Idaho Falls, 2545 Mesa St., with Bishop Brian Seedall officiating. Family will visit with friends on Monday, April 27th, 2015 from 6-7p.m. at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church. Burial will be Wednesday, April 29th at the Amesville-Alpine Cemetery near Alpine Wyoming at 11a.m. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.coltrinmortuary.com
