Thomas M. Jirous, age 75, of Stevens Point, died peacefully at home on Monday, April 20, 2015.

Tom was born on October 17th, 1939, the oldest child of Leo and Esther Jirous of Grand Rapids, Michigan. He attended Catholic Central High School and Western Michigan University where he met Rose Kenny.

Tom and Rose married on October 7th, 1961 in Manistee, Michigan.

Tom's business career began in life insurance. Tom and Rose eventually relocated to Stevens Point to work in a developing life insurance program at Sentry Insurance (then, Hardware Mutual Insurance). He also served as the Vice President of several Sentry owned companies. Tom was a respected and successful businessman who led with care and compassion.

Tom lived a life with simplicity of purpose and unyielding strength. He was a strong, yet gentle presence with bright blue eyes, a warm smile, and kind chuckle. His life was guided by the Ten Commandments and he lived them through example. In 1999, Tom was ordained a Catholic Deacon. He freely gave of his time, talent and treasure to his family, community and the church. Together with Rose he raised four children, who are also inspired by their examples of community-mindedness, lending a hand to a neighbor in need, a quick, knowing smile or a listening ear.

Despite physical challenges in recent years, Tom remained good-natured and amicable.

Tom is survived by his wife, Rose; children, Todd (Becky) of Stevens Point, Laura (Dan) Wenman of Mount Horeb, Peter (Teri) of Omaha, NB, and daughter-in-law Jenny of Colorado Springs, CO. Grandchildren: Alli, Andrew, and Emma Wenman; P. Scott Jirous; Koli and Ayan Jirous. He is also survived by his brothers Joe (Mary Kay) Jirous and Fred Jirous of Grand Rapids, MI.

His parents; son, Paul; and siblings, Mary (Bob) Schumacher and Dennis (Linda) Jirous of Grand Rapids, MI precede him in death.

A Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 25, 2015 at St Joseph's Convent Chapel in Stevens Point with Rev. Thomas Lindner presiding. Visitation will precede the funeral from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Visitation will also be held on Friday, April 24th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Boston Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Tom's name to the Paul Jirous Scholarship Fund or .
