Vincent Arthur Nies was born August 15, 1878, in South Lancaster Township, Grant County, Wisconsin, the son of Peter Nies (1840-1897) and Mary Ann Ertz (1857-1931). He first married Hattie May Basing on March 21, 1900, in Grant County, Wisconsin. Hattie was born January 18, 1881, in Wisconsin, the daughter of George and Mary Basing. They had three known children:

1. Harold J. Nies (1902-1973)
2. Viola Luella (Nies) Mayfield (1904-1996)
3. Benjamin M. Nies (1908-1998)

Hattie died June 25, 1916, of Tuberculosis. Vincent then married Laura Louise Duve on January 12, 1926. Laura was born February 15, 1890, in Potosi, Grant County, Wisconsin, the daughter of John Jacob Duve (1851-1919) and Mary M. Wilhelm (1858-1945). They had the following known children:

4. Clarence Vincent Nies (1927-2006)
5. Louise Elizabeth (Nies) Robinson (1929-)
6. Velma Dorothy (Nies) Hansch (1932-2004)

Vincent died June 16, 1952, in Beetown, Grant County, Wisconsin.

Vincent Nies
LANCASTER - Vincent Nies, 73, died at a hospital here Monday.

He was born in South Lancaster township.

Surviving are his wife, the former Laura Duve; three sons, Harold, Lancaster; Ben, Mineral Point, and Clarence, Nicasio, Calif.; three daughters, Mrs. Allen Robinson, Lancaster; Mrs. Guy Mayfield and Velma Nies, both of Madison, five brothers, George, Bloomington; John, Bonesteel, S. D.; Matt, Patch Grove; Joe, Hollandale, and Frank, Madison, and a sister, Mrs. Dora Christman, Fenniore.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. in St. Clement's Catholic church and at 8:30 in the Goble-Weeden funeral home. The rosary will be recited at the funeral home at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
