Johnson was the son of Samuel Titus Sr. and Rebecca Johnson. He is presumed to have been born in Hopewell Twp., old Hunterdon (now Mercer) Co., NJ, where his parents resided. He married Anna Stout by license dated 30 Dec. 1778, probably in old Hunterdon Co., NJ. He is presumed to have died in Hopewell Twp., where he resided at the time of making his will.

Johnson served as a private and sergeant in the First Regiment, Hunterdon Militia, under captains Joab Houghton and William Tucker, during the Revolutionary War, 1777.

Note: This memorial is tentatively placed in this burial ground, where Johnson's son Noah is interred. Johnson's father was a "leading supporter" of this church, and his son Joab (buried in adjacent Pennington Cemetery) was an elder here. No gravestone has been found for Johnson.
