A life that was deeply rooted, both geographically and spiritually, in the soil of Sinsinawa, ended its earthly pilgrimage there, when Sister Generosa Lang, 81, was buried February 3, 1975 in the Motherhouse Cemetery. Sister Generosa died in the golden jubilee year of her profession January 31 at St. Dominic Villa where she had lived since 1972. Mary Catherine Lang (Sister Mary M. Generosa Lang) was the daughter of Augustus Lang and Julia Adeline Arts Lang. Mary Catherine, the oldest, assumed the big sister role in the family, remaining at home after grade school education in St. May's, Marshalltown, to help her mother with the heavy burden of farm and household chores. When she entered the novitiate at the age of 30, she was returning to the site of her parents' old home, to begin a new life as a religious. She was received August 4, 1924. Sister continued her life of service--now as a consecrated religious (her profession was August 5, 1925) at St. Jarlath and St. Barnabas, Chicago; Freeport; Rosary; Omaha; Minneapolis, Holy Rosary; South St. Paul; Anaconda; Denver; Evanston, Shorewood and Regina Convent, Minneapolis, which was her last assignment before retirement to St. Clara in 1970. Quiet, prayerful and cheerful, she was eager to please the sisters whom she served. Her sense of humor made her an asset to community life, where she was a friend to all and willing to participate in activities planned by others. Sister Generosa's generous heart and willing hands sustained many sisters in the fulfillment of their vocations. Like the Valiant Woman, may her works "praise her in the gates."
