She was married to James Leland Glidewell, and he preceded her in death. Betty then married Jack Cunningham, and he preceded her in death in 1971.
Betty was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church of Bridgeport, a member of the Bridgeport Senior Citizens, and really enjoyed playing cards with her “card club”. She was a loving homemaker to her family and had worked at Cannon’s Furniture, Brian Lumber Company, and did secretarial work at the Pentagon.
Surviving family includes: two sons- James Leland “ Butch” Cunningham and his wife Jane of Bridgeport and Kent Newton Cunningham and wife Lauren of Sumter, SC: three daughters-Teresa Marie “Sue” Holtz and husband Chuck of Bridgeport, Jaclyn Kay Whelen and husband Chris of Hawaii, and Barbara Ann “Bobbie” Shuppert and husband Mike of Lawrenceville: one sister- Mary Lou Potts of Decatur, IL: seven grandchildren- Tona Ambrose, Sonya Nash, Monica Gaither, Joe Kent Cunningham, Katie, Caroline, and Betsy Cunningham: her dear friend- Lou Boatman of Bridgeport, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her parents- Clarence and Beatrice Cook: her first husband- James Leland Glidewell: her second husband- Jack Cunningham: one daughter- Beth Ann Cunningham: and one brother- James “Jim” Cook.
A funeral service for Betty A. Cunningham will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church of Bridgeport. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday evening at the Cunningham Funeral Home in Bridgeport. A private burial will be held at Crest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery near Claremont.
