Thanks to Nancy W. for the following:

Eugene "Gene" Bixby Hopkins, 92, of Cumberland died Friday, April 17, 2015 at Cumberland Healthcare. He was born September 17, 1922 in Cumberland, WI and was the fifth child of George and Kate (Kirby) Hopkins. His family owned and operated the Hopkins Drug Store, where Dancing Bird Studio is currently located. Gene was raised in Cumberland and graduated in 1941. After High School, Gene attended UW River Falls and the Minneapolis Business College before joining the military. He worked at the U.S. treasury in Washington D.C. Following his honorable discharge in 1947 as a sergeant, he returned to Cumberland where he worked for Stokely Van Camp before spending the bulk of his career with the U.S. postal services, retiring as postmaster in 1978. Gene was married in Minneapolis, MN on January 17, 1949 to Arlene Erickson who preceded him in death on September 4, 2012. Together, they traveled extensively spending Y2K in Mexico with their grandchildren. They were master bridge players and belonged to numerous bridge clubs. He loved camping, fishing for walley at Ouisconsin Club in Ontario, Canada and working in his gardens at which he won many blue ribbons at the fair for his vegetables. Gene also enjoyed working with his hands on doll houses, wooden toys and making hand made replica ships. Gene was his happiest when he was in the north woods in his rustic cabin without plumbing or electricity, surrounded by his dogs and listening to the howling wolves or when he was the center of a large noisy family gathering. He was a familiar cite at local eateries sporting his Stout Lodge sweatshirt and Packer cap. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Gene is survived by his sons, Mike (Kathy) Hopkins of Wascott, Mark Hopkins of Ashland and Charles (Brenda) Hopkins of Prior Lake, MN, daughters, Dr. Mary (Richard) Hopkins-Best of Menomonie and Chris (Jeff) Hopkins-Hile of Cumberland and 10 grandchildren, Lindsay (Steven) Olan, Matthew (Jill Benson) Hopkins, Natalie (Brian) Olsen, Gustavo Best, David and Zoe Hopkins-Hile, Taylor Hopkins-Kraemer, Peyton, Madelyn and Brooklyn Hopkins, along with many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, William and George Hopkins, sister, Katherine Charbonneau and his beloved sister Mary and her husband Francis, who raised him from the age of 15.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at Augustana Lutheran Church, Cumberland, WI with Pastor Randy Skow-Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Cumberland, WI. Honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren.
