The death of Dr. C. C. Finney, on Saturday afternoon at 3: 30 o'clock at his house, 315 Jefferson avenue, removed from the citizenry of Oshkosh for the first time in 104 years the name of "Finney". Last member of his immediate family, which descended from some of the earliest pioneers this community. Dr. Finney was the final resident of Oshkosh to bear that name.

He was ill with pleurisy last spring and had never fully regained his health but was active shortly before bis death both in his dentistry practice and in activities of the Elks lodge in which he held a national record in point of service as an officer. He was elected tiler of Oshkosh lodge. No. 292, Nov. 25, 1895, and held that position at the time of his death No
other Elks member has served a longer period of time in one capacity in the nation. Dr. Finney was one of four surviving charter members of the Oshkosh lodge, which was formed in 1894.

He was born in Oshkosh, Sept, 1869, and was a lifelong resident of this community. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin E. Finney and his father came to Oshkosh in 1843 at the age of 5 years, the family coming from the state of New York and bringmg the Finney name to Oshkosh directories where it has continued for over a century.

Dr. Finney's father engaged In steamboating which was a principal occupation in. this area a century ago when Oshkosh was a village. Later he was. a grocer, but lost his stock of trade in the fire that swept much of Oshkosh in 1875. As a boy Dr.Finney's father was one of the first to attend school in Oshkosh.

Dr. Finney attended grade school and Oshkosh High school and was a part-time student at Northwestern Dental college, Chicago. He learned dentistry from his father- in-law. Dr.
William Decker, an early Oshkosh dentist. He was married June 14, 1893, to Miss Jessie A. Decker.

Dr. Finney was a member of state and county and Fox valley dental societies and of the American Dental association. He had been active in affairs of Trinity Episcopal church, having served as warden and as a member of the vestry.

For 10 years he headed the drum corps of the Elks lodge ana during the period of World war I this musical group escorted every man leaving Oshkosh for the front, regardless of the time of day or night the train departed. Dr. Finney was active for many years in home talent shows and participated in the Elks Christmas parties, serving for a number of years as the Santa Claus.

His wife passed away Dec. 7, 1946. He was the last of his immediate family which included a sister and five brothers. Nieces and nephews survive including E. Newton of Oshkosh.

Funeral services will 4be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 :30 o'clock at Trinity Episcopal church with the Rev. Earle G.Lier officiating. Interment will be in private at Riverside cemetery-Friends may call at the Spikes McDonald funeral, home from 5 o'clock Tuesday afternoon until 1 o'clock Wednesday afternoon.
