Philomena E. 'Phil' Granese, 84, of Montgomery Twp., died February 2, 2002 in New Port Richey Community Hospital, New Port Richey, FL. She had been snow birding with her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Robert Camburn, in Florida when she was stricken ill. She was preceded in death by her husband, Salvatore 'Sox' Granese, in 1976.
Born in Bridgeport, she was a daughter of the late Augustine and Philomena C. (Paschall) Carfagno. Formerly of Norristown, she lived in Chalfont from 1957 until 1979, when she moved to the Village of Neshaminy Falls, and became one of their earliest residents.
She was a homemaker. After the death of her husband, she worked at J.C. Penney Co. at the Montgomery Mall location and later at Prudential AARP Division on Horsham Road in Montgomery Township.
Mrs. Granese was a member of Mary, Mother of the Redeemer Church in Montgomeryville and a former member of Church of St. Jude in Chalfont.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing and crocheting.
She is survived by three children, two daughters, Anna Marie Short and her husband, John, of Wilmington, DE and Elizabeth S. Camburn and her husband, Robert G., of Hatfield and a son, Michael T. Granese and his wife, Carol, of Everett, WA; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers, Francis and Anthony Carfagno, both of Norristown and Peter Carfagno and his wife, Charlotte, of Naples, FL; two sisters, Ann Venezia and Rita Minanno and her husband, John, all of Norristown; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Phyllis Ann Granese; a sister, Teresa Szymanski; and three brothers, Salvatore, Ralph and Louis Carfagno.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass Feb. 9 at 10 AM in Mary, Mother of the Redeemer Church, 1325 Upper State Rd. in Montgomeryville. Interment, Whitemarsh Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Derstine and Cannon avenues in Lansdale, Friday from 7 to 9 PM or at the church Saturday from 9 to 9:45 AM prior to the mass.
