He was the son of the late Elmer V. Wood, Sr. and Lillie Ferguson Wood. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Helen Shelton Wood, his brother Clinton Wood and sisters Adelia ‘Dee’ Pegram, Bessie Angel, Florence Moricle, Mae Norman and Helen Price Coble.
He was a life-long member of Stokesdale Christian Church.
He retired as Postmaster from the US Postal Service in 1981. He and his wife, also owned and operated Wood’s Furniture Company.
He joined the US Army Air Corps in 1946, serving proudly for 3 years.
