Helen Shelton Wood, 80, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home following a three year battle with cancer.
Mrs. Wood's funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 22, at the Stokesdale Christian Church with Rev. Dexter L. Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
A Rockingham County native, Mrs. Wood was born on December 13, 1926, the daughter of the late Elbert E. and Carrie Powell Shelton. She was a member of Stokesdale Christian Church, and along with her husband owned and operated Wood's Furniture Company in Stokesdale, NC, for over 20 years.
In addition to her parents, she was receded in death by her first husband, Herbert Moenkhaus and brother, James Shelton.
A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, Mrs. Wood is survived by her husband of 54 years, E.V. 'Chigger' Wood of the home; daughter Joan Moenkhaus Rogers and her husband, Michael of Winston-Salem, and Janet Wood Andrews and husband, Wayne of Stokesdale; sister, Carrie Alley and her husband, Orell; brothers, Powell Shelton and his wife, Betty, Ed Shelton and his wife, Judy, Eugene Shelton and his wife, Gwynn, and David Shelton and his wife, Elizabeth all of Stokesdale; and three grandchildren, Christopher Mark McGee, Bryan Michael Rogers, and Gregory Todd Rogers all of Winston-Salem and many loving nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday evening at Forbis and Dick Brooke Chapel and other times at the home.
Mrs. Wood's family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. Judith Hopkins, Carolt Holt, Dr. Charles Pippitt, the staff of the Forsyth Regional Cancer Center and her special caregivers for the loving care and attention shown to Mrs. Wood during her illness.
