This short biography begins in Cambridge, Massachusetts, when Philip Bemis and Elizabeth (Lawrence)Bemis became the proud parents of Zaccheus Bemis on July 25th, 1736. By this time Cambridge, Mass. had been settled for a little over 100 years. With the English arriving in 1630. And Harvard becoming a college in 1650. Cambridge grew slowly as an agricultural region just 8 short miles from Boston. The Bemis family were land holders and well established by 1775 when on April 18th, a William Dawes traversed the town en route to sounding warnings on the eve of the Battles of Lexington and Concord. Zaccheus was 39 years old, left his wife Elizabeth (Lyon) Bemis who was just 34 and having four children at that time, and marched on the Alarm at Lexington as a Private in Capt. Noah Miller's Company on April 19th, 1775. Along with his elder brother, Capt. Edmond Bemis (1732-1807), and Edmonds young son Elijah who was just 14, born in 1761.

Zaccheus Bemis passed a way in October, 1804 in Westminster, Worcester County, Massachusetts and his burial was held at Woodside Cemetery, Westminster, Mass. with full military honors as a Revolutionary War Soldier.
