OBITUARY

Editors Ledger: - Erick Peter Anderson, one of our oldest and most respected citizens, died at his home two miles northwest of Four Corners Wednesday evening. He was born in Sweden March 10th, 1813, and was in the eighty-third year of his age. He came to America and Jefferson county, Iowa, in 1845, being one of the first party of Swedes to reach the western states. March 30th, 1852, he was married to Miss Louisa Anderson, who survives him. Eight children were born of this union, five of whom are now living, A. E. and S.P. at Gothenburg, Neb.; A. L. in Fairfield; Miss Susana and Frank at home. Mr. Anderson became a christian and joined the M. E. church here more than forty years ago. He was steadfast in the faith to the end, and his christian examples have made their impression upon the community. During his early career in America he purchased a tract of land in the "wilderness," but which now is one of the best farms and one of the most beautiful homes in the famed Swedish settlement of Lockridge township. The remains were interred Saturday afternoon at the church cemetery. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. A. Walgren, assisted by Rev. S. T. Horton of the Free Methodist church and Rev. C. J. Bengston of the First Lutheran church. The pall bearers were six of the old settlers - A. F. Cassel, J. M. Castell, Alex. Johnson, A. Castile, A. P. Peterson and J. P. Farman. The church and altar were draped in black, while the casket was adorned with several beautiful floral designs in pure white. The funeral was largely attended. Among friends and relatives from abroad we noticedMrs. A. P. Frost, Callender, Iowa; Mrs. G. Newlen, Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Burke, Swedesburg.

Death of Erick Peter Anderson.

Erick Peter Anderson, an old and respected resident, died at his home, two miles northwest of Four Corners, on the 8th of May.

Mr. Anderson was born in Sweden in 1810, where he grew to manhood. He came to America and to Jefferson county in 1845. Like all other young men who came from foreign countries, he had to work for wages awhile, but he soon bought himself a small farm and as times got better with him he would buy more, until at the time of his death he had quite a large farm. He was married in 1852 to Miss Lousia (sic. Louisa) Anderson and they were blessed with eight children, five of whom are still living. The are Andrew E., Simon P., of Gothenburg, Nebraska, Levi A., of Fairfield, Susan and Frank at home.

Mr. Anderson was a man of excellent qualities. He had a kind word for everyone and was a devoted member of the Methodist church. The funeral was held on the 11th of May at the Methodist church, and the remains were laid to rest in the M. E. cemetery. Rev. Walgren, assisted by Rev. Bengston, conducted the services. Deceased was in his eighty-second year.
