Homer Bertram Shoemaker Sr., 80, of Clarion, died Sunday, April 12, 2015, at the Golden Living Center in Clarion.

Born in Deanville, Armstrong County, he was the son of Paul A. and Grace H. (Hetrick) Shoemaker.

He married Shirley Jean Troup in 1956. She survives.Mr. Shoemaker graduated from Redbank Valley High School in 1952 and served in the United States Army.He retired from Georgia Pacific in Marble.Mr. Shoemaker was a member of the First Baptist Church of Clarion and in his earlier years he was a deacon and a Sunday school teacher.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Homer B. Shoemaker Jr. and David B. Shoemaker, both of Houston, Texas; a daughter, Cindy J. Gathers and her husband, Robert, of Shippenville; a grandson, Matthew Gathers; and two sisters, Janet Kunselman of Distant and Connie Keller and her husband, George, of Denton, Md.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Elizabeth Henry, Louise Aaron, Rosella Boggs and Lawaive Metz; and a brother, Howard Shoemaker.

Family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m., Saturday, April 18, at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home in Clarion. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2015, at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Clarion Cemetery.
