Daniel B Bowman, 91, of West Lafayette, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2015. He was born January 7, 1924 in Frankfort, IN to the late Lloyd and Charity (Cornelision) Bowman. Daniel graduated from Huntington High School where he lettered in football and basketball. He received a scholarship to Kalamazoo College, but joined the Army when WWII began. Dan served in the US Army in the European and Pacific theaters during WWII. After WWII, he attended Purdue University and received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. Dan married Phyllis J. Purdy on February 11, 1950. Phyllis preceded him in death on September 10, 2012. He then served in the Army during the Korean War. After the war, he and Phyllis lived in Indianapolis. Dan owned his own bridge design build company for many years, then worked for the federal government as a building inspector. He was an avid golfer and has played the original golf course at St. Andrews in Scotland along with many others. Dan traveled all over the United States, Canada, Europe, Scandinavia and Mexico. He enjoyed reading, swimming, camping, watching sports, especially Purdue football and basketball. Dan was a member of the Purdue Alumni Association and Sigma Nu Fraternity. He is survived by his daughter, Christine Bowman (Todd Dobbels – companion), sister in law, Patricia (Purdy) Steele, nephew, James Steel and his wife Sandy and their two children Bobby and Jessy. Family and friends will gather on Monday, April 20, 2015 from 130-3pm at Flanner and Buchanan – Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St, with a memorial service beginning at 3pm. Memorial contributions can be made to the Wildcat Creek Wildlife Center in Delphi, IN, Wounded Warriors Project or to Purdue University.
