Earnest Earl Zaun, born in Richmond, Va., to John Adam Zaun and Georgia Ella Powell.

Met Jacqueline Delmar Abbott at Buckroe Beach in Hampton when they were teenagers; they married on April 7, 1928. They had two children, John Beverly Zaun, 1930-1998, and Jacqueline Gail Zaun (1934 - ). Ernie moved to Ocean View in Norfolk in search of employment in the early 1930's; his family joined him in Norfolk in 1938. He was employed with Dalton & Bundy Lumber Company as a bookkeeper. They lived on 35th St in Norfolk, and then in a house on Newport Avenue. They moved to Witchduck Road in Virginia Beach, where they were living when he died unexpectedly from gall bladder surgery complications in 1959.

He was a Boy Scout leader and Bible Class teacher, and coached his son's teams in sports. Ernie was beloved by his family and all who knew him.

"Ernest Earl Zaun, 49, husband of Mrs. Jacqueline Abbott Zaun and son of John A. and Mrs. Georgia Powell Zaun, died in a Norfolk hospital, Thursday at 12:05 am.

He was a native of Richmond and had been a resident of Norfolk for 20 years, residing at 203 Waybridge Road, Kempsville.

He was a member of the Christian Temple and was assistant-treasurer of Dalton-Bundy Lumber Co.

Beside his wife and parents he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Joseph H. Watson Jr. (corrected from George S) of Kempsville; a son, John Beverly Zaun of Norfolk; two sisters, Mrs. W. P. Wright and Mrs. S. C. Nash, both of Richmond, two brothers, W. J. Zaun of Riverton, N.J. and J. A. Zaun of Richmond, and a granddaughter Teresa Jacqueline Zaun of Norfolk.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Holloman-Brown Funeral Home Saturday a 1 p.m. Burial will be in the Rosewood Memorial Park."
