DEATH TAKES ERNIE TATE
James Ernest Tate, 50, member of the second generation of a family that has lived in Seneca for many, many years, died in St. Anthony's hospital, Sabetha, at 7:00 P.M., Thursday, December 8.

Ernie-everybody called him Ernie-was stricken by an attack of appendicitis, November 23rd. He was taken to the hospital next day. The surgeon found the appendix had ruptured and the disorder had also affected the stomach. From the first, there was little or no hope for his recovery. Ernie had been in poor health, in fact for 12 years, but he managed to do some light work, including in the last 18 months, service as second cook at the Hotel Gilford.

Ernie Tate's entire life was spent in Seneca. He was one of a family with a gift for making wood, field and stream provide sustenance. Had this family been situated in a more favored clime, hunting, trapping and fishing would have paid its members better than the average woodsman. As it was, his bent for such things, together with a will to find work where work was to be had, gave his life an independence of action through all the years, good and bad. Ernie was a quiet undemonstrative type but a friendly man.

His birth date was October 16, 1882. He was married on January 1, 1903, to Blanche Margaret Carman. They have two sons, Cedric and Gordon, Seneca and one grandchild, Gary Lee. Mose and Charlie Tate of Seneca are brothers, Mrs. Seany Fisher, Seneca and Mrs. Ida Goolsby, Falls City, are sisters.

The funeral service was held at the Methodist church Sunday, the address by Rev. H. T. Vigour. Three numbers, Sun of My Soul, Beautiful Isle and Abide With Me, were sung by a quartet composed of Dr. J. M. Thomson, D. E. Taylor, Charles Jermane and G. W. Baldwin with Mrs. H. M. Baldwin as accompanist.

Burial was in the Seneca city cemetery. The pallbearers were C. A. Myers, H. R. Levick, A. E. Levick, Orville Largent, T. E. Clowe and Harvey Hybskman.

Relatives and friends from out of town who attended the funeral of Mr. Tate included Mr. and Mrs. Lon Goolsby and Ida Jones, Falls City, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Fannen, Holton; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Ebert, Marysville; Mr. and Mrs. Norman Cordell, Bern; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Walter, Vliets; Mrs. Walter Hopper, Orville, Perry and Edwin Tate, Liberty, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Clowe, Marysville.
