Thomas Prichard was born in about 1650 in Wales, perhaps in Denbigh Town, Denbighshire, as his daughter Ann is said to have been from there or the neighborhood. He arrived in Philadelphia in November 1683, aboard the ship Morning Star, loaded at Liverpool in August 1683. Thomas had loaded to the ship and paid duty on "1 sack, 1 cask, qty. 6 Winchester bushels oatmeal, 3 flitches bacon." Thomas was a cordwainer by trade, a shoemaker who makes fine soft leather shoes and other luxury footwear articles. He purchased two city lots in Philadelphia, one in 1683 and another in 1684. Quaker records show him living in Philadelphia in 1692 and 1693. On the "29th of first month 1698", 8 Apr 1698 on the Gregorian Calendar, Thomas signed his last will and testament that was proved on the "1st Day of 9th 1698", 11 Nov 1698 Gregorian, and registered in Philadelphia Will Book A, Page 419. Quaker minutes of the Philadelphia Monthly Meeting note that Thomas died on "2-2-1698". The Quaker "2nd" month was April in 1698, and 10 days are added for leap year correction since 1582, yielding 12 Apr 1698 as the date on the Gregorian Calendar. His exact burial place is not known.

This Thomas Prichard should not be confused with another Thomas Prichard of Nant Lleidiog, Gwynedd, Wales, a yeoman (person who owns and cultivates a small farm), who received a deed for 156 1/4 acres of the Thomas-Jones lands in Pennsylvania on 1 Apr 1662, sold that right on 16 Jul 1684 and probably never traveled to America. He is named as executor in his father's will, proved at St. Asaph, Denbighshire, in 1686.

Children of Thomas and Barbara were:
Ann Prichard (1670–1740)
Jane Prichard (1670–?)
John Prichard (1672–1738)
Matthew Prichard (1676–1727)
Martha Prichard (1678–?)
Mary Prichard (1680–1690)
Benjamin Prichard (1684-1739

I have obtained images of the 1698 and 1699 wills of Thomas and his wife Barbara, each naming their six surviving children, from the Register of Wills for the City of Philadelphia and have made verbatim transcriptions of both documents. I will provide copies of that material and the sources of facts stated here to anyone who is interested.

It is presumed that Thomas was buried in Philadelphia's Friends Arch Street Meeting House Burial Ground, as he was a member of the Friends Philadelphia Monthly Meeting, Arch Street. The burial ground was in use since 1690, but no tombstones or grave markers were made as they were thought to be ostentatious.
