Esther R. Erwin, 93, East Taylor Township, entered into eternal peace Monday, April 6, 2015, at her home. Born Dec. 2, 1921, in Johnstown, daughter of John L. and Iva Z. (Miller) Erwin.

Preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Jesse, Benjamin, Obert and John; and sisters, Genevieve Moose, Hazel Walker, Laura Jane DeVore and Ada Romanchak. Survived by her loving siblings, Betty Zapatochny, Naperville, Ill.; Marlene Davis, Dupont, Wash.; Verl Erwin, Shelby Township, Mich.; and George Erwin, Greenville, Pa.; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews and great-great- nieces and -nephews.

Esther was a 1944 graduate of East Conemaugh High School and then completed nursing training at Memorial Hospital. She entered military service in 1945. Esther retired in 1965 as a major in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps, having served during the Korean War. She later retired in 1990 from Mercy Hospital after 20 years of service as a registered nurse. Longtime member of Conemaugh First United Methodist Church. She was a supporter of East Taylor Volunteer Fire Department and East Taylor Ambulance Association. Esther was a very kind and gentle soul; she had a loving and generous heart, and was always giving to others. She loved her entire family and will be remembered as a caring and compassionate sister, aunt and friend.
