Betty "Sister" Canipe Blevins, 74, of the Sweet Creek Community, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 9, 2015 after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
She was the daughter of the late John and Sally Webb Canipe. She was also preceded in death by a brother, George Lewis Canipe, a nephew, Mitchell Hobson and her beloved husband, Charles Blevins who died in 2002.
She was a hard worker on her job and at home, always giving her best to anything she was doing.
Reading and collecting good books was her favorite hobby. She loved the outdoors, gardening and working in her flowers. She was a great cook and expected some, or all, of the family at her table every Sunday evening. She loved old people, children and all animals.
She is survived by her sisters, Mary Ellen Hobson and husband Doug, Polly Jones and husband Buzz all of Bakersville; a special niece and caregiver, Sally Shultz and husband Jeff also of Bakersville; other nieces and nephews include Russell Jones and his daughter, Autumn, Taylor Renee Jones, Jonathan Pendley, Shenna Williams and her husband Sam and their daughter, Nevaeh, Cory Burke and Dale Pendley.
She was a member of Cub Creek Baptist Church. She walked with her Lord daily and extended a helping hand to anyone in need. The world is a better place because she lived and how beautiful heaven must be now that she's there.
Funeral services will be 8:00 pm Saturday, April 11, 2015 in the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home with Doug Willis officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Burial will be 5:00 pm Sunday in the Bailey Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice and Palliative Care, 236 Hospital Dr., Spruce Pine, NC 28777.
