SANTA FE — Mr. A. J. Austin passed from this life Thursday, August 18, 2005, in Texas City.

Born March 13, 1922, in Mize, Mississippi, Mr. Austin had been a resident of Santa Fe for 36 years, previously of Mize. He had been employed for 30 years as an industrial painter, having last worked as a Paint Superintendent with Sline Industrial Painters in Houston. Prior to becoming a painter, A.J. had owned and operated a dairy farm in Mississippi and had served in the US Army during WWII. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #0384 in Mize and Painter’s Local #130 in Houston and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Dorothy, survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Wendy Austin of Santa Fe; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Don Brown of Bryan; granddaughter, Kristin Socias and her husband, Brandt; sisters, Mary Barnett and Margaret Morgan, both of Laurel, Mississippi and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Monday, August 22, 2005, at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Magee, Mississippi, Pastor Joe Gardner, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Billy Austin, Bobby Austin, Howard Austin, Joe Austin, Wayne Austin, and Bob Barnett.

Visitation for friends and family will be held from 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. Saturday at Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway 6, (409) 925-3501 and Sunday from 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Magee.
