Billy Dean Bass
(July 28, 1938 - April 8, 2015)

Billy Dean Bass, 76, passed from his earthly home in Toney, AL, to his eternal home in the presence of his loving family on April 8, 2015. He was born on July 21, 1938, in Lawrence County, AL, to John and Lottie (Hembree) Bass.

Billy grew up in Lawrence County and was always a Lawrence County boy at heart. After his high school graduation, he studied Civil Engineering at Georgia Tech before beginning his work life. When he returned home, he began working with his father at Decatur Iron & Steel. While he held a variety of jobs in his life, including being a milkman, most of his jobs were in construction and building maintenance.

He spent many years supporting the space program. The first was working for Brown Engineering where he met his wife, Barbara. The last was as the Building and Structures Superintendent for the Marshall Space Flight Center. After leaving MSFC, he continued to train and certify workers and supervisors across the southeast in Asbestos Abatement. He fully retired in 2009. For a few years after his retirement, he was able to continue his hobbies of woodworking and gardening.

Billy was a member of Meridianville Church of Christ. He followed in the footsteps his father (John) and grandfather (Finis) by serving the Lord’s church in any way that he could as long as he was able.

Billy was preceded in death by his loving wife of 41 years, Barbara, and his parents. Visitation will be held at Berryhill Funeral Home Friday from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. when the family will be greeting friends and relatives. Chapel service will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m

Burial to follow at Red Hill Cemetery in Moulton.

Memorial donations may be made to Lewy Body Dementia Association, Inc. 912 Killian Hill Road S.W., Lilburn, GA 30047.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Hospice Family Care.
