Justin J. "J.J." Powell

Justin J. Powell, 92, a guest of Windy Hill Village and formerly of Janesville, died on Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at 5:10 am at Windy Hill Village, Philipsburg,.

Mr. Powell was born in Ginter, PA on August 24, 1913, the son of the late John W. and Lula (Landis) Powell.

He was affiliated with the Janesville United Methodist Church, Smithmill, PA.

He served in the U.S. Navy in WW II and was a member of the American Legion Freeberg Post #591, he also was active in the Republican Party. Mr. Powell enjoyed his family, cooking and spending time at his hunting camp.

On Dec. 24, 1936 in the Ramey United Methodist Church he married the former Margaret Turnbull who preceded him in death on March 17, 1990.

In 1952 he founded and was operator of J.J. Powell, Inc of Philipsburg. He retired in 1987.

He is survived by two grandsons; Jeffrey S. Powell and his wife Christi of Philipsburg and Keith Powell and his wife Amy of State College. A daughter-in-law, Mary Ann (Lefebvre) Powell of Chester Hill, and three great grandchildren, Justin and Jordyn Powell of Philipsburg and Appollo Powell of State College. He is also survived by a sister, Virginia Taylor of Smithmill.

He was preceded in death by his two sons, John W. "Jack" Powell on April 24, 1994 and James T. Powell on June 25, 1995. Also he was preceded in death by three brothers, Denzil G., Jack L. and Charles E. Powell and a sister, Hazel Lynn.
