The son of Timothy Durkee and (Lucy) Anna Smalley, He relocated with his family to Vermont. Andrew and at least two brothers were taken prisoner during the Raid on Royalton. In October of 1780, the British-led Indian raid on several towns along the White River Valley occurred during the French and Indian War due to the American Revolutionary War. Andrew and other young boys considered too young to march to Montreal were later released. However, his brother Adin died in the Montreal camp. It was to be the last major Indian raid in New England.
Andrew married Phebe Dodge in 1806 and moved to Quebec Canada before 1809. They had the following children:
Lucinda Durkee
Frances "Fanny" Belinda Durkee (1808 – 1870
Perces Durkee (1809 – 1834)
George Rix Durkee (1810 – 1812)
Rhoda Durkee (1819 – 1904)
