Richard E. Holmquist passed away at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center, Wednesday, April 8, 2015. Age 87 years.
Survived by his wife, Joyce E. Holmquist (Rys); a son, Gary R. Holmquist; and a daughter, Lisa G. Holmquist. Four grandchildren, Cody Holmquist, Casey Spangler, Chelsea Marji and Chad Holmquist. Four great-grandchildren, Addyson, Kinsley, Eligh Holmquist and Jesse Spangler. His sisters-in-law, Gloria Holmquist and Phyllis Holmquist. Also numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Alma (nee Sullivan) Holmquist. Four brothers, Leonard, Donald, Howard and Gordon Holmquist. His sister, Phyllis Holmquist.
Richard was born September 15, 1927 in Joliet. Graduate of Joliet Township High School Class of 1945. He was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Veteran of W.W. II serving in the U.S. Navy. Rich retired from the Joliet Fire Department Fire Inspection Bureau in 1980. Following his retirement, he was the parking lot attendant at First National Bank of Joliet Downtown Branch for 10 years. Rich was a avid Illini fan and enjoyed exploring Chicago. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Funeral services will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Rd., Friday, April 10, 2015, at 7:00 P.M. Interment will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Tuesday, April 14th at 1:30 P.M. Visitation will be held Friday from 3:00 P.M. until time of services at 7:00 P.M.
