Gary Lynn Carson

November 14, 1935 - April 8, 2015

Our loving husband, father, and grandfather, Gary Lynn Carson, of Pleasant Grove, and a long-time resident of Highland, passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2015, in his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born November 14, 1935, in Lehi, Utah, to Elvin and Leatha Carson. He was the second of six children. He was raised in Fairfield, Utah, and moved to Pleasant Grove when he
was 11.

Gary attended Pleasant Grove High School and excelled in football and track. He earned an athletic scholarship to Snow College and was later named as the first All-American football player from that school.

He served an honorable LDS mission in the Western States from August 1956 to August 1958. He subsequently served in various callings and was continually providing service to others, especially the youth. He loved hosting Christmas parties and Easter egg hunts for the neighborhood and members of his ward at his home in Highland.

Upon returning from his mission, he won the heart of a beautiful southern belle, Martha Jane Sharpe. They were married in the Salt Lake City Temple April 2, 1959. They were blessed with six sons and two daughters. Gary is survived by his loving wife of 56 years; seven children: 35 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; and four siblings.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Craig Carson; a granddaughter, Jourdan Carson; a brother, Darrell Carson; and a brother-in-law, Larry Beveridge.
Of his 35 grandchildren, seven have served or are currently serving full-time LDS missions. His family was the center of his life!

Gary was a contractor and land developer and developed many subdivisions and built many homes in northern Utah County. He also worked on several commercial projects, including Intermountain Power plant in Delta, Utah, and Fort Drum Army Base in Watertown, New York.

He loved the outdoors – mostly hunting and fishing. As a family, they spent many weekends in West Canyon and at Scofield Reservoir. He also loved hunting and camping in the Paunsaugunt area.
The family would like to express a special thanks to the Encompass Home Health team, especially Marie Hansen, for their support and help during his time of illness.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 11, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. in the Highland 9th Ward LDS meetinghouse, 5335 West 11200 North, Highland, Utah, with a viewing held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Family and friends may also attend a viewing Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove.

Interment will be in the Highland City Cemetery.
