Son of Reese Barber, Sr and Catherine Reynolds. Reese, Jr married Matilda Lester 24 December 1833, Madison County, Georgia.

Reese, Jr had four sons who served in Company K, 3rd Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry, Confederate States of America, Clark County, Georgia, known as the Athens Guards. The Third Georgia Infantry was organized in late April, 1861 by order of Joseph Brown, Governor of Georgia. In the spring of 1862, the Third Georgia Infantry returned to Virginia and joined the Army of Northern Virginia where it served the remainder of the war. The Third Georgia participated in more than fifty engagements during its career.

Reese Jr. signed an affidavit in Sept 1864 concerning his son Columbus, who was killed in the War. Reese also served in the Civil War as a private in Captain Taylor's Company, Georgia Infantry.

Reese, Jr and Catherine's children:

1. William L. Barber, born 1836, Clarke County, Georgia, enlisted May 10, 1862; served as a private in Company K, 3rd Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry, during the Civil War. He was wounded at the Crater, near Petersburg, Virginia on July 30,1864. He was on light duty at Lynchburg, VA at the close of the war. He was living in Clarke County, Georgia in 1896, when he filed for a pension, which was denied.

2. Columbus A. Barber, born 1838, Clarke County, Georgia, and served as a Private in Company K, 3rd Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry, during the Civil War. He enrolled in service with his brother, John R. Barber, on June 10, 1861. They traveled together to Portsmouth, Virginia, where they were mustered in June 30, 1861. Columbus was wounded May 14, 1864 at the battle of Spotsylvania, Virginia, and died of wounds at Richmond, Virginia on June 2, 1864. Columbus is buried in Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond.

3. John Reese Barber, born 25 March 1840, Clarke County, Georgia, enlisted June 10, 1861; served as a Private in the same company with his brothers, later became 4th Corporal. He was wounded at Crater near Petersburg, VA on July 30, 1864; was at Hatcher's Run, Va Feb 5, 1865, and was on wounded furlough. He married Terressa Lucinda C Pittman, 28 December 1869 in Madison County, Georgia. He died just before his 84th birthday, on 9 February 1924. His widow died 25 August 1928. A witness to Mrs. Barber's pension application was N. P. Barber, relationship not stated.

4. Samuel M. Barber, born 30 September 1842, Clarke County, Georgia, enlisted May 10, 1862; served as Private in the same company with his brothers. He was wounded at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania on July 2, 1863, was made a prisoner at Williamsport. He was exchanged and rejoined his outfit. He surrendered with Robert E. Lee at Appomattox April 9, 1865. He was living in Clarke County in 1920, buried at Buena Vista Cemetery in Clark County, GA

5. Adolphus P Barber, born 1848, Clarke County, Georgia married Georgia Angelina Lord.

F. Henry B. Barber, born 15 Feb 1851, died 28 Dec 1916. Buried at Buena Vista Cemetery in Clark County, GA.

G. Cicero D. "Buddie" Barber, born 1853, died 1929, buried at Buena Vista Cemetery in Clark County, GA with wife "Tisha" A Barber, and sons, Henry and Otis.
