A gentle heart stopped beating, but heaven certainly has another angel.
Mrs. A.J. Imelda "Millie" (Bertler) Gruber, formerly of 1219 Lawe St., quietly joined her loved ones Sunday, Feb. 16, 1997.
Millie was born in Manitowoc on August 3, 1917, to the late George and Johannah (Engledinger) Bertler. She married Arthur J Gruber on Sept. 16, 1950 in Manitowoc. He preceded her in death Sept. 30, 1975. With her devoted faith in God, she lived her life to the fullest. Millie was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary 401, The R. E.A.C. through the Eagle's Club, and St. Ann's Society through St. Francis Xavier Cathedral. She was inducted into the Eagles Hall of Fame in 1994. She was a R.S.V.P. member for 15 years and until recently was active at the Senior Center helping with the Focus Newsletter. She was a past president of the Eagles Auxiliary 401, The R.E.A.C. and St. Ann's Society. She was also an avid bingo player, playing whenever and wherever she got the chance. Her first priority was always her family. They were the most important blessing in her life.
She spoke with pride often about her daughters, Lynn (Peter) Allard, Green Bay; and Rosalie (Rose) Gruber, Sturgeon Bay; her grandchildren, Craig, Mark and Jenny Allard and Christopher (Chris) Gruber were always in her heart and mind. She greatly enjoyed attending their school plays and concerts. She is further survived by two stepdaughters, Betty Popp, Manitowoc; Marylou Pellerin, Fond du Lac; her brothers, Donald (Betty), Ohio; Eugene (Lila) Manitowoc; Raymond, Florida; her sister, Marie Cannon; three sisters-in-law, Helen, Catherine, and Esther Bertler; she is further survived by 10 step-grandchildren; 16 step-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances and Roselle Bertler; five brothers, Gerald, Vincent, Walter, Ralph and George Bertler.
Friends may call at Proko Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St., from 4 to 8 p.m. today, and after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, 139 S. Madison St., until the time of Mass. Eagles Memorial Service 6:30 p.m. tonight. Parish wake service 7 p.m. this evening. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Peter Klauck officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Manitowoc.
Millie touched many lives and she will hold a special place in many hearts. She will be missed. The family wishes to give special thanks to everyone at Marla Vista, St. Vincent's Home Health and Unity Hospice, especially Terry and Lynn.
A memorial fund is being established for Unity Hospice.
"Why do you grieve for me, dear friends Because I've departed from you.
I am going to receive my eternal reward With God and the angels above.
So don't you grieve for me, I'll be happy as I can be, With God and the angels above."
