Pioneer Resident of Marne Dies at Los Angeles, Sunday
Mrs. Harriett E. Allen, 76, a pioneer resident of Marne, passed away yesterday morning at the home of her sister, Mrs. Earl Squires, at Los Angeles, Cal., following a short illness. Mrs. Allen, accompanied by her daughter, Miss Effie, left Marne last Thursday for Los Angeles. She was stricken at Reno, Nev., Friday but continued on her journey to the west coast where she succumbed Sunday. She was born at Petersburg, Ill., in 1854 and came to Marne with her parents when a small girl. She was married here to Mr. Allen, who died several years ago.
Surviving are four daughters, Effie Allen of Marne, Mrs. Ada Allen of Faukton, SD, Mrs. W.H. Burkey of Walnut and Mrs. Frank Breece of Atlantic; three sons: Ira Allen of Aberdeen, Wash, William Allen of Idaho and Avery Allen of Walnut. Three sisters, Mrs. Squires at whose home she died, Mrs. Jim Woods of Marne and Mrs. Grace McAvoy of Pennsylvania and two brothers: Stewart and Murray Trailer of Marne, also survive. Two children preceded her in death. The body will be brought back to Marne for funeral services and burial.

Allen Services - Funeral services for Mrs. Harriett E. Allen, pioneer Marne woman who died last week at the home of her sister, Mrs. Earl Squires at Los Angeles, Cal., were held this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Marne Methodist Protestant church, conducted by the Rev. Elmer Castrodale. Burial was in the Brighton cemetery near Marne. The body was accompanied here by Miss Effie Allen who had gone to California with her mother a few weeks ago. All of the children are here except Ira Allen, who lives at Aberdeen, SD and Will Allen, who lives in Idaho.
